Install/Upgrade Mozilla Firefox

Firefox is an open source browser created by Mozilla. Mozilla is a non-profit organization whose motive is to promote free software’s and Firefox browser is the result. Firefox is available in almost 70 languages and is the default web browser in most of Linux operating system. If you want to install or upgrade your Firefox browser, follow the below mentioned steps.

Step1. Download the latest Firefox browser from following link:

http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html

Step2. Extract the downloaded Firefox package

[root@server ~]# tar -xjvf firefox-10.0.2.tar.bz2

Step3. Move the Firefox directory into ‘/opt’ directory.

[root@server bin~]# mv firefox /opt

Step4. Rename the old Firefox version so that in case you wish to revert back to your old version, you can easily do that.

[root@server ~]# cd /usr/bin/

[root@server bin~]# mv firefox firefox.old

Step5. Create symbolic link and point it to ‘/usr/bin/firefox’

[root@server ~]# ln -s /opt/ firefox/firefox /usr/bin/firefox

Thats it. We have successfully upgraded from old Firefox version to new Firefox version.
